Heart Tissue Section

A heart tissue section is a thin, prepared slice of cardiac tissue that preserves its microscopic architecture for examination, providing a foundation for studying normal structure and disease. Typically, the tissue is fixed to maintain cellular features, embedded in a supporting medium, cut into thin sections, and stained or labeled to visualize cardiomyocytes, connective tissue, immune cells, or infectious agents. In immunology and infection research, heart tissue sections help localize inflammation, characterize host–pathogen interactions, assess tissue injury, and compare disease progression or treatment responses. Combining structural analysis with immunostaining or molecular detection links microscopic changes to underlying biological mechanisms.

Source: Brown, A. O., et al. Visualization of Streptococcus pneumoniae within Cardiac Microlesions and Subsequent Cardiac Remodeling. J. Vis. Exp. (2015).This video demonstrates the microscopic visualization of bacterial microlesions in mouse heart tissue. The heart of a mouse infected with Streptococcus pneumoniae is harvested, washed, and fixed before being processed to obtain coronal sections. These sections are stained with hematoxylin and eosin and examined under a microscope to visualize...
