Mouse Fibrosis Model

A mouse fibrosis model is an experimental system that reproduces key features of pathological scar formation, including persistent tissue injury, inflammation, and excessive extracellular matrix deposition. Researchers induce fibrosis in a defined organ using chemical, surgical, infectious, or genetic approaches, then assess how activated fibroblasts, immune cells, and signaling pathways drive collagen accumulation and tissue remodeling. These models help clarify disease mechanisms and enable measurement of structural and functional changes over time. In medicine, they support the evaluation of antifibrotic therapies, biomarkers, and targeted interventions for conditions such as liver, lung, kidney, and cardiac fibrosis, while highlighting biological differences that must be considered when translating findings to humans.

Mouse model of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) with metabolic dysfunction, hepatic gene expression changes, and liver histopathological alterations that resemble human MASLD, including fibrosis that progresses to advanced fibrosis stage 3. This model can be used in studies of MASLD pathophysiology and in pre-clinical studies of new therapies.

This protocol demonstrates how the Src homology 2 domain-containing 5'-inositol phosphatase (SHIP)-deficient mouse model of Crohn disease (CD)-like ileal inflammation and fibrosis can be used to test novel therapeutics for CD.

A Refined Aerosol-Based Intratracheal Bleomycin Delivery Method for Reproducible and Minimally Invasive Mouse Models of Pulmonary Fibrosis
