Ultraviolet Cutting Laser

An ultraviolet cutting laser is a precision tool that uses concentrated ultraviolet light to separate or remove material with minimal mechanical contact. Its focused beam delivers energy to a defined region, producing localized photochemical and thermal ablation that can create fine cuts while limiting disruption around the target. In neuroscience, this approach supports the isolation of selected brain regions, cells, or tissue structures for downstream molecular and morphological analysis. By improving spatial precision during sample preparation, ultraviolet laser cutting can help researchers link cellular composition and anatomy with neural function, disease-related changes, and experimental outcomes.

2023

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy is one of the most popular analytical techniques because it is very versatile and able to detect nearly every molecule. With UV-Vis spectroscopy, the UV-Vis light is passed through a sample and the transmittance of light by a sample is measured. From the transmittance (T), the absorbance can be calculated as A=-log (T). An absorbance spectrum is obtained that shows the absorbance of a...

This protocol introduces a lithography-free micropatterning method that is simple and accessible to those with a limited bioengineering background. This method utilizes customized laser-cut stencils to micropattern extracellular matrix proteins in a shape of interest for modulating cell morphologies. The procedure for micropatterning is demonstrated using induced pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocytes.

Ultraviolet and Visible (UV–Vis) Spectroscopy: Overview

2024

Ultraviolet–visible (UV–visible or UV–Vis) spectroscopy is an analytical technique that investigates the interaction between matter and UV–Vis light within the electromagnetic spectrum. This method is widely used for its versatility, simplicity, and relatively quick data acquisition, making it valuable for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. When UV–Vis radiation passes through a material, molecules absorb light depending on the energy required for electronic transitions. As a result...
