4 Drop Method

The 4 Drop Method is a microscale chemistry technique that uses four carefully measured drops of liquids to carry out and observe a small-scale reaction while conserving reagents. Typically, a sample and selected reagents are combined sequentially on a spot plate or other reaction surface, allowing changes such as color formation, precipitation, or gas evolution to reveal chemical behavior. This approach supports qualitative analysis, reaction identification, and efficient laboratory instruction by reducing waste and exposure compared with larger-scale tests. Its controlled scale also helps students and researchers compare reactions consistently and apply chemical principles using minimal materials.

2025

The video demonstrates the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) to embryoid bodies (EBs) by the hanging drop method. Upon suspending the mESCs in hanging drops and incubating, the cells aggregate to form EBs, which are further differentiated into neuronal progenitor cells (NPCs) using a differentiation medium supplemented with retinoic acid (RA).
