Cell Morphology Quantification

Cell morphology quantification is the measurement of cell shape, size, and structural features from microscopy images, providing objective data on cellular states and developmental changes. The process typically uses image segmentation to distinguish cells from their surroundings, followed by feature extraction and calculation of metrics such as area, perimeter, aspect ratio, and circularity. In developmental biology, these measurements help characterize cell differentiation, migration, growth, division, and tissue organization across time or experimental conditions. Quantitative morphology can reveal patterns that visual inspection may miss, support comparisons between developmental stages or genetic backgrounds, and strengthen models of how cellular form contributes to tissue development.
