Posterior Body Elongation

Posterior body elongation is the developmental process that extends an embryo’s trunk and tail from the posterior end, establishing the longitudinal body axis and enabling orderly formation of axial tissues. In many vertebrates, cells in the posterior growth zone remain proliferative and contribute new tissue while coordinated cell movements, including convergent extension, narrow and lengthen the body; segmentation of paraxial mesoderm into somites proceeds alongside this growth. Studying posterior body elongation reveals how cell proliferation, differentiation, tissue morphogenesis, and signaling pathways integrate during embryogenesis. Its disruption can alter axial patterning and vertebral development, making it relevant to congenital malformations and regenerative biology.

Transcription Elongation Factors

Transcription elongation is a dynamic process that alters depending upon the sequence heterogeneity of the DNA being transcribed. Hence, it is not surprising that the elongation complex's composition also varies along the way while transcribing a gene. The transcription elongation is regulated via pausing of RNA polymerase on several occasions during transcription. In bacteria, these halts are necessary because the transcription of DNA into mRNA is coupled to the translation of that mRNA into a...

2016

Here we detail protocols specifically designed to monitor morphogenic defects that occur during early and late phases of embryonic elongation of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. Ultimately, these protocols are designed to identify genes that regulate these phases and to characterize their differential requirements along the antero-posterior axis of the embryo.

Isolating Short Posterior Ciliary Arteries: A Protocol to Excise Intact Short Posterior Ciliary Microvessels from Porcine Eye

Abdullatif, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Owing to the non-linear nature of its governing laws, fluid motion induces complicated flow patterns. Understanding the nature of these patterns has been the subject of intense scrutiny for centuries. Although personal computers and supercomputers are extensively used to deduce fluid flow patterns, their capabilities are still...
