Fluid Mechanics Analysis

Fluid mechanics analysis is the study of how liquids and gases move, deform, and exert forces, providing a foundation for understanding flow in engineering systems. It applies conservation of mass, momentum, and energy to relate variables such as pressure, velocity, density, viscosity, and temperature under specified conditions. Engineers use analytical models, computational fluid dynamics, and experimental measurements to evaluate internal and external flows, predict drag and pressure losses, and assess stability or turbulence. These analyses support the design and optimization of pipelines, pumps, turbines, aircraft, automobiles, and environmental systems while helping improve efficiency, safety, and performance.

Dimensionless Groups in Fluid Mechanics

2025

Dimensionless groups in fluid mechanics provide simplified ratios that help analyze fluid behavior without relying on specific units. The Reynolds number (Re), which represents the ratio of inertial to viscous forces, distinguishes between laminar and turbulent flows, making it essential in the design of pipelines and aerodynamic surfaces. The Froude number (Fr), the ratio of inertial to gravitational forces, is particularly useful in predicting wave formation and hydraulic jumps in...

A method for mass spectrometric analysis of endogenous peptides in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is presented. By employing molecular weight cut-off filtration, chromatographic pre-fractionation, mass spectrometric analysis and a subsequent combination of peptide identification strategies, it was possible to expand the known CSF peptidome nearly ten-fold compared to previous studies.

Cilia-generated fluid flow in Kupffer’s Vesicle (KV) controls left-right patterning of the zebrafish embryo. Here, we describe a technique to modulate gene function specifically in KV cells. In addition, we show how to deliver fluorescent beads into KV to visualize fluid flow.

Synovial Fluid Analysis to Identify Osteoarthritis

Synovial fluid analysis under transmitted, polarized, and compensated light microscopy is used to evaluate the inflammatory or non-inflammatory nature of a sample through simple steps. It is particularly useful in osteoarthritis to detect calcium crystals and identify a more severe subset of osteoarthritis.

To assess the in vivo effects of therapeutic interventions for muscle disease, methods are needed to quantitate force generation and fatigability in treated muscle. We detail an approach to evaluating myo-mechanical properties in explanted mouse hindlimb muscle. This analysis provides a robust approach to quantitating the effects of genetic modification on muscle function, as well as comparison of therapies in mouse models of muscle disease.
