Pan-type Mixers

Pan-type mixers are industrial machines that blend granular, powdery, or plastic materials in a shallow circular vessel, providing controlled and relatively uniform mixing for engineering production. In a typical design, rotating blades or paddles move through the material while scrapers return material from the pan wall, combining convective circulation with shear; depending on the model, the pan, mixing tools, or both may rotate. These mixers are widely used for concrete, mortar, asphalt, dry powders, and other formulated materials, where batch consistency affects strength, workability, and processing performance. Their robust geometry also supports adaptable mixing times and material handling.

A detailed protocol for synthesizing lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) using confined impinging jet (CIJ) mixer technologies, including a two-jet CIJ and a four-jet multi-inlet vortex mixer (µMIVM), is demonstrated. The CIJ mixers generate reproducible, turbulent micro-mixing environments, resulting in the production of monodisperse LNPs.
