Pmma-assisted Transfer

PMMA-assisted transfer is a materials-processing method that uses a polymethyl methacrylate support layer to relocate thin films, membranes, or two-dimensional materials from one substrate to another. In a typical process, PMMA is coated onto the material, the original substrate is selectively etched or separated, and the PMMA-supported layer is placed on a target surface before the polymer is dissolved in a suitable solvent. This approach helps preserve fragile films during handling and enables integration with substrates that are incompatible with direct growth. Engineering applications include fabricating layered devices, assembling heterostructures, and studying how interfaces influence material performance.

2017

Solvent bonding is a simple and versatile method for fabricating thermoplastic microfluidic devices with high quality bonds. We describe a protocol to achieve strong, optically clear bonds in PMMA and COP microfluidic devices that preserve microfeature details, by a judicious combination of pressure, temperature, an appropriate solvent, and device geometry.

Centrifugation-Assisted Mitochondrial Transfer to Glioblastoma Stem Cells

2025

In this video, a method is demonstrated to enable the transfer of fluorescently labeled mitochondria into glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) through centrifugation. The successful uptake and functional integration of the donor mitochondria are confirmed by detecting the fluoresce using confocal microscopy.

Source: Denaxa, M., el al., Transplantation of Chemogenetically Engineered Cortical Interneuron Progenitors into Early Postnatal Mouse Brains. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the procedure for injecting a plasmid vector carrying the gene of interest into interneuron progenitors in an embryonic brain slice, followed by electroporation for plasmid entry and gene expression. These modified progenitors can later be used for treating brain disorders.

In this paper we describe the interfacial synthesis of conjugated microporous polymers (CMP) on sacrificial substrates, and the dissolution of the substrate for the preparation of freestanding CMP nanomembranes. In addition, we will describe how the fragile nanomembranes can be transferred to other substrates.
