Surface Mount Soldering

Surface mount soldering is an electronic assembly method that attaches components directly to conductive pads on a printed circuit board (PCB), enabling compact, lightweight, and densely populated circuit designs. In a typical process, solder paste is deposited onto the pads, components are positioned by placement equipment, and controlled heating melts the solder so it wets the component leads or terminals and forms solid electrical and mechanical joints during cooling. Engineers use this technique for prototypes, consumer electronics, industrial controls, and high-volume manufacturing, where stencil printing, reflow profiles, inspection, and joint quality determine assembly reliability and support efficient PCB fabrication.

Whole-Mount In Situ Hybridization

Whole-mount in situ hybridization (WMISH) is a common technique used for visualizing the location of expressed RNAs in embryos. In this process, synthetically produced RNA probes are first complementarily bound, or "hybridized," to the transcripts of target genes. Immunohistochemistry or fluorescence is then used to detect these RNA hybrids, revealing spatial and temporal patterns of gene expression. Unlike traditional in situ hybridization techniques, which require thin tissue sections whose...

2014

The zebrafish embryo is an excellent model for developmental biology research. During embryogenesis, zebrafish develop with a yolk mass, which presents three-dimensional challenges for sample observation and analysis. This protocol describes how to create two-dimensional flat mount preparations of whole mount in situ (WISH) stained zebrafish embryo specimens.

Here, we describe a protocol for whole mount immunofluorescence and image-based quantitative volumetric analysis of early stage mouse embryos. We present this technique as a powerful approach to qualitatively and quantitatively assess cardiac structures during development, and propose that it may be widely adaptable to other organ systems.

Whole Mount Preparation of Mouse Intestine: Using a Simple Gut-incising Device to Prepare Whole Mount
