Attenuation Correction

Attenuation correction is a medical imaging technique that compensates for the loss of detected radiation as photons are absorbed or scattered while traveling through the body. In PET and SPECT, the system uses an attenuation map, often generated from a low-dose CT scan or transmission measurement, to estimate photon loss along different paths and adjust the measured signal. This process reduces artifacts and improves image contrast, localization, and quantitative accuracy, helping clinicians and researchers interpret tracer distribution more reliably. It is especially important when imaging anatomically dense or nonuniform regions, such as the chest, abdomen, and brain.

Transcription Attenuation in Prokaryotes

2020

Transcriptional attenuation occurs when RNA transcription is prematurely terminated due to the formation of a terminator mRNA hairpin structure. Bacteria use these hairpins to regulate the transcription process and control the synthesis of several amino acids including histidine, lysine, threonine, and phenylalanine. Transcription attenuation takes place in the non-coding regions of mRNA. There are several different mechanisms used to attenuate transcription. In ribosome mediated...

Distance Corrections

To achieve precise distance measurements, especially in surveying and construction, certain corrections must be applied to account for potential sources of error like the standardization errors, temperature variations, and slope adjustments.Standardization error emerges when measurement equipment undergoes changes, such as wear, repairs, or weather impacts. To address this, surveyors compare the equipment’s readings to a standard. This process identifies any deviation that might lead to...

Power Factor Correction

The power transmission to a factory involves the transfer of apparent power, a combination of active and reactive power. The power factor measures how effectively electrical power is converted into useful work output. The ratio of the real power (KW) that does the work to the apparent power (KVA) supplied to the circuit. A poor power factor means the inductive electrical load absorbs more reactive power, causing a low lagging power factor. This results in large voltage drops across the load...

The goal of the protocol described in this paper is to induce compulsive-like behavior in rats for the study of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This behavior is precipitated by attenuating a signal indicating that a lever-press response was effective in producing food.
