Fluoridated Toothpaste

Fluoridated toothpaste is a dentifrice that delivers fluoride to tooth surfaces during brushing, helping prevent dental caries and preserve enamel. Fluoride ions become available in saliva and dental plaque, where they reduce acid-driven demineralization, support remineralization of early enamel lesions, and make repaired mineral more resistant to subsequent acid attack; fluoride may also reduce bacterial acid production. Used with a toothbrush, fluoridated toothpaste provides a practical, low-cost topical preventive method for children and adults. Consistent brushing helps limit cavity formation and supports population oral health, particularly alongside routine dental care and habits that reduce frequent sugar exposure.

2020

The synthesis of fluorine-18 (18F) labeled radiopharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography typically requires months of experience. When incorporated into a radiotracer, the silicon-fluoride acceptor (SiFA) motif enables a simple 18F-labeling protocol that is independent of costly equipment and preparatory training, while reducing precursor quantity needed and utilizing milder reaction conditions.

High Throughput SiRNA Screening for Chloropicrin and Hydrogen Fluoride-Induced Cornea Epithelial Cell Injury

High throughput small inhibitory RNA screening is an important tool that could help to more rapidly elucidate the molecular mechanisms of chemical cornea epithelial injury. Herein, we present the development and validation of exposure models and methods for the high throughput screening of hydrogen fluoride- and chloropicrin-induced cornea epithelial injury.

2026

This protocol describes the preparation of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDS)-facilitated diffusion dishes, followed by ion-selective electrode measurements to quantify fluoride ion mass in the serum, bone, and teeth of mice. The method provides a sensitive, calibration-based approach for evaluating fluoride accumulation in biological specimens.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia Calibration curves are used to understand the instrumental response to an analyte and predict the concentration in an unknown sample. Generally, a set of standard samples are made at various concentrations with a range than includes the unknown of interest and the instrumental response at each concentration is recorded. For more accuracy and to understand the error, the response at each concentration can be repeated so an error...
