Incomplete Resection

Incomplete resection is a surgical procedure in which part of the targeted tissue or lesion remains after an operation, either intentionally or because complete removal is not feasible or safe. In medicine, surgeons may leave residual tissue when the lesion is close to critical structures, when preserving organ function takes priority, or when disease boundaries are difficult to define; postoperative assessment can help evaluate the remaining tissue. Incomplete resection is relevant to tumor management and other surgical conditions because residual disease may influence recurrence risk, treatment planning, symptom control, and follow-up. It can guide decisions about additional surgery, adjuvant therapy, or ongoing clinical monitoring.

An Adjuvant Therapy in a Mouse Model with an Incompletely Resected Subcutaneous Tumor

2025

This video illustrates testing of adjuvant or additional therapy in a mouse model with incompletely resected subcutaneous tumors. The partially tumor-resected mouse is treated with an antibody targeting the anti-cytotoxic protein of T regulatory cells, potentially reducing tumor regrowth and suggesting effective adjuvant therapy.

Incomplete Dominance

Gregor Mendel's work (1822 - 1884) was primarily focused on pea plants. Through his initial experiments, he determined that every gene in a diploid cell has two variants called alleles inherited from each parent. He suggested that amongst these two alleles, one allele is dominant in character and the other recessive. The combination of alleles determines the phenotype of a gene in an organism. According to Mendel, organisms with both copies or a single copy of the dominant allele display a...

Source: Alomari, S., et al. Implementation of Minimally Invasive Brain Tumor Resection in Rodents for High Viability Tissue Collection. J. Vis. Exp. (2022)This video demonstrates the use of a minimally invasive resection system (MIRS) to excise tumor tissue from an anesthetized mouse implanted with a tumor. The procedure involves securing the mouse onto a stereotactic frame, reopening the previous surgical site to access the brain, and inserting a specialized cannula that utilizes suction and a...
