Medullary Pin Implantation

Medullary pin implantation is an orthopedic fixation technique in which a rigid pin is placed within the medullary canal of a fractured bone to restore stability and support healing. During the procedure, the pin is positioned inside the marrow cavity so it spans the fracture, helps maintain alignment, and resists bending forces while biological repair progresses. This internal splinting method is used primarily for selected long-bone fractures and may be combined with other fixation methods when additional rotational or axial stability is needed. Understanding pin placement, bone anatomy, and mechanical loading helps clinicians plan treatment and evaluate outcomes in fracture management.

Arginine-vasopressin (AVP) controls fine-tuning of body water homeostasis through facilitating water reabsorption by renal principal cells. Here, we present a protocol for the cultivation of primary rat inner medullary collecting duct cells suitable for the elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying AVP-mediated water reabsorption.

Euler's Formula for Pin-Ended Columns

2024

In structural engineering, the stability of columns under compressive axial loads is a critical consideration, described as buckling. A typical example involves a column PQ, which is pin-connected at both ends and subjected to a centric axial load F applied at one end, with a reaction force of F' = -F at the other end. Here, it is crucial to understand that when an applied load exceeds the critical load, buckling occurs as the system becomes unstable. To calculate the critical load, envision...

Studying medullary thymic epithelial cells in vitro has been largely unsuccessful, as current 2D culture systems do not mimic the in vivo scenario. The 3D culture system described herein - a modified skin organotypic culture model - has proven superior in recapitulating mTEC proliferation, differentiation and maintenance of promiscuous gene expression.
