Postoperative Compliance

Postoperative compliance is the extent to which a patient follows medical instructions after surgery, including prescribed medications, wound care, activity restrictions, diet, and follow-up appointments. These behaviors support recovery by maintaining treatment plans, reducing strain on healing tissues, enabling timely detection of complications, and allowing clinicians to adjust care when needed. In medicine, assessing and improving postoperative compliance can help reduce preventable complications, hospital readmissions, and delayed healing while promoting safer recovery. Clear communication, accessible instructions, caregiver support, and appropriate follow-up are important strategies for addressing barriers and strengthening adherence across surgical settings.

Exercise may alleviate behavioral impairments associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Studies of the mechanisms underlying exercise-mediated effects have increased in disease models, but the neurobiological background accompanying these diseases, specifically aging, is likely not considered. Here, we illustrate measures to increase the likelihood of a successful exercise paradigm in aged rats.
