Automated Playback System

An Automated Playback System is a programmable setup that delivers prerecorded sensory stimuli with consistent timing, making it valuable for controlled neuroscience experiments. It typically coordinates digital audio or other stimulus files with experimental schedules, triggering playback under defined conditions while recording behavioral or physiological responses. By standardizing stimulus intensity, duration, sequence, and repetition, the system reduces researcher error and improves reproducibility. Neuroscientists use automated playback to investigate sensory processing, neural responses, learning, communication, and behavior in laboratory models, while synchronized data collection supports precise comparisons across trials, subjects, and experimental conditions.

2015

Ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs) in mice differ depending on age, sex, condition, and genetic background. Using two ultrasound emitters broadcasting simultaneously in different locations, this two-choice test can evaluate murine recognition and preference responses to different characteristics of USVs.

Experimental Assessment of Mouse Sociability Using an Automated Image Processing Approach

Peptide adsorption to plasticware during traditional tip-based serial dilutions can significantly impact potency determination and confound the understanding of structure-activity relationships used for lead identification and lead optimization phases of drug discovery. Here methods for automated acoustic non-contact serial dilution of peptide samples are described.

We demonstrate a storable, transportable lipid bilayer formation system. A lipid bilayer membrane can be formed within 1 hr with over 80% success rate when a frozen membrane precursor is brought to ambient temperature. This system will reduce laborious processes and expertise associated with ion channels.
