Impactor Alignment

Impactor alignment is the process of positioning an impactor so its tip, trajectory, and contact surface match a defined anatomical target before an experimental injury, a step essential for consistent force delivery. In neuroscience, researchers use stereotaxic landmarks and controlled vertical or angled approaches to standardize where and how mechanical energy reaches the brain while reducing variation from skull curvature or operator placement. Accurate alignment supports reproducible traumatic brain injury models, enabling clearer comparisons of lesion extent, neurological deficits, imaging findings, and treatment responses. It also improves experimental quality by helping distinguish biological effects from differences in impact delivery.

Generating a Mouse Model of Traumatic Brain Injury Using an Impactor Device

2025

This video demonstrates the procedure for inducing traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a mouse model. An anesthetized mouse with an exposed skull is taken to create an opening in the skull, and then a controlled cortical injury is induced using an impact device. The injury damages the brain tissue, causing impaired cognitive function and motor coordination.

Generating a Traumatic Brain Injury Mouse Model Using an Impactor Probe

2025

This video demonstrates the procedure for inducing an open-skull traumatic brain injury in a mouse by making a midline skull incision, drilling through the skull and removing the bone flap to expose the brain cortex, and applying high pressure to induce trauma. The wound is then sutured to prepare the mouse model for subsequent experiments.

A Contusive Model of Unilateral Cervical Spinal Cord Injury Using the Infinite Horizon Impactor

A reliable and repeatable way to produce a cervical unilateral spinal cord injury using the Infinite Horizon impactor is described. The method takes advantage of a custom designed frame and clamp to stabilize the spine. The standardized procedure and biomechanical injury parameters result in sufficient and sustained injuries.

The analytical ultracentrifuge (AUC) sample cell holds sample and reference buffer and during experiments and is exposed to high vacuum and rotor speeds up to 60,000 rpm. This video will demonstrate the rigorous attention to detail necessary for assembly, loading and alignment of this very important component of an AUC experiment.

Design Example: Alignment of a Road Line Using GIS

2025

The alignment of a road line using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a critical process in civil engineering, combining advanced technology with practical decision-making. This methodology begins with the collection of geospatial data, including information on land cover, geomorphology, drainage patterns, slope, and contour details. Such data is typically acquired through satellite imagery and GIS tools, offering a comprehensive understanding of the terrain.Once the data is gathered, it...
