Opc Isolation

OPC isolation is a laboratory method for obtaining oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) from nervous tissue so their development, signaling, and role in myelination can be studied under controlled conditions. The process typically combines tissue dissociation with removal of debris and enrichment based on cell-surface markers, using approaches such as immunopanning or magnetic-activated cell sorting, followed by culture in defined conditions that preserve precursor properties. Isolated OPCs support neuroscience research on proliferation, migration, differentiation into oligodendrocytes, and myelin formation, while providing models for studying demyelinating disease, injury responses, and potential remyelination therapies.

Astrocytes have been recognized to be versatile cells participating in fundamental biological processes that are essential for normal brain development and function, and central nervous system repair. Here we present a rapid procedure to obtain pure mouse astrocyte cultures to study the biology of this major class of central nervous system cells.
