Pharmacological Agent Application

Pharmacological agent application is the use of drugs or chemical compounds to alter biological function for research, diagnosis, or therapy. In neuroscience, these agents act through defined molecular targets, including receptors, ion channels, transporters, and enzymes, changing neurotransmitter signaling, neuronal excitability, or synaptic plasticity. Researchers apply agonists, antagonists, and enzyme inhibitors in cell, animal, and clinical studies to test circuit function, model neurological disease, and evaluate therapeutic candidates. Careful control of dose, timing, route, and off-target effects helps connect molecular mechanisms with behavior and supports safer, more precise interventions for conditions affecting the brain.

Effect of an Immunomodulatory Pharmacological Agent on the Interaction Between Dendritic Cells and CD4+ T Cells

2025

This video demonstrates a method of converting dendritic cells (DCs) to tolerogenic DCs (TolDCs) using an immunomodulatory pharmacological agent. This conversion is confirmed by evaluating the TolDC function through their immunosuppressive effect on CD4+ T cells.

Testing the Efficacy of Pharmacological Agents in a Pericardial Target Delivery Model in the Swine

Local Anesthetics: Common Agents and Their Applications

2023

Local anesthetics (LAs) are commonly used for various applications in medical and dental procedures. Some of the common agents used are cocaine, lidocaine, and bupivacaine. Cocaine is an ester of benzoic acid and methylecgogine. It is used to anesthetize and vasoconstrict locally. Currently, it is used primarily for topical applications. It is beneficial for surgeries on the upper respiratory tract, providing anesthesia and shrinking the mucosa. Cocaine in the form of cocaine hydrochloride is...
