Tracking Load Manipulation

Tracking load manipulation is the systematic recording of how changes in task demands influence psychological performance and behavior. In research, investigators establish a baseline, then manipulate cognitive load by varying working-memory requirements, task complexity, time pressure, or competing information while monitoring outcomes such as accuracy, response time, attention, and decision-making. Comparing performance across controlled load conditions helps clarify how limited cognitive resources shape perception, learning, memory, and self-regulation. This approach supports rigorous experimental design by linking a defined manipulation to measurable behavioral effects, improving interpretation of psychological mechanisms and informing applications in education, human factors, clinical assessment, and performance research.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

Multiple Object Tracking

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In a staggeringly complex and engaging world, it is crucial to selectively process some stimuli at the expense of others. Experimental psychologists call this ability attention. Specifically, visual attention refers to the ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Many paradigms used to study visual attention involve brief, punctuated, and repeated trials. However, everyday situations often place sustained demands...

This article describes surface labeling and ex ovo tissue culture in the early chick embryo. Techniques amenable to time-lapse bright field, fluorescence, and optical coherence tomography imaging are presented. Tracking surface labels with high spatiotemporal resolution enables kinematic quantities such as morphogenetic strains (deformations) to be calculated in both two and three dimensions.
