Droplet Reader

A droplet reader is an instrument that analyzes individually partitioned liquid droplets, most commonly to detect and quantify nucleic acids in digital PCR workflows. It passes droplets through an optical detection system, measures fluorescence from target-specific probes, and classifies each droplet as positive or negative; statistical analysis of these counts then estimates the absolute concentration of the target using Poisson distribution principles. Droplet readers support sensitive applications such as low-abundance mutation detection, pathogen testing, gene-expression analysis, and copy-number measurement. By converting fluorescence signals from thousands of reactions into quantitative data, they improve precision and help reveal rare biological events.

2023

The microplate reader is a multimodal instrument that allows for a variety of experiments to be performed and measured simultaneously. Microplate readers can make absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence measurements. Multiwell plates are integral to the microplate reader and allow for many experiments to be performed at once. Regardless of the assay type, experiments on the plate reader utilize a standard curve to determine the experimental values. This curve uses samples of known...

This video demonstrates the role of digital droplet polymerase chain reaction in identifying indel mutation in a DNA sample. The high precision and sensitivity of ddPCR enable accurate and consistent detection of rare mutations present in a sample, even at low levels. It can identify and quantify indel mutations in different regions of the genome, providing valuable insights into the mechanisms of mutation and the functional consequences of these mutations.
