Nematode Germline

The nematode germline is the lineage of reproductive cells that produces sperm and eggs, preserves genetic information across generations, and supports the study of development and inheritance. In the gonad, germline stem and progenitor cells divide by mitosis before entering meiosis, a specialized division that reduces chromosome number and generates differentiated gametes; the organization of this process varies among nematode species and sexual forms. Researchers use nematode germlines to investigate stem cell maintenance, gametogenesis, chromosome behavior, fertility, and heritable genetic change, making them valuable systems for biological techniques and reproductive biology.

Behavioral assays provide powerful tools for understanding neuronal function. Here we present several protocols for quantifying predatory feeding behavior found in the model nematode Pristionchus pacificus and its relatives. Additionally, we provide methods for analyzing predatory feeding adaptations including mouth structures and teeth.
