Dendrite Formation Study

Dendrite formation studies examine how tree-like crystalline structures develop during the growth or deposition of materials, especially metals, and why this process matters in chemistry and materials science. During electrochemical deposition, uneven ion transport, concentration gradients, and localized electric fields can make certain surface regions grow faster, producing branched structures rather than a uniform layer. Research on dendrite formation helps explain defects in electrodeposition, metal plating, and rechargeable batteries, where penetrating dendrites can reduce performance or create short circuits. Understanding nucleation, crystal growth, and transport conditions supports the design of safer batteries, more reliable coatings, and controlled synthetic materials.

2011

Dendritic cells uptake antigens and migrate towards immune organs to present processed antigens to T cells. Qdot nanocrystal labeling provides a long-lasting and stable fluorescent signal. This allows tracking of dendritic cells to different organs by fluorescent microscopy.

Intravital Fluorescence Microscopy to Study Microvascular Thrombus Formation

2025

This video demonstrates the intravital fluorescence microscopy technique to study thrombus formation in a mouse model. The mouse is injected with a fluorophore-labeled polysaccharide to monitor blood circulation. Upon illumination with a high-intensity light, the phototoxic induction of an injury in the microvasculature of the ear leads to the formation of a thrombus, which is confirmed by visualizing the obstruction in the blood flow.

Generation of Immature, Mature and Tolerogenic Dendritic Cells with Differing Metabolic Phenotypes

Immature dendritic cells can be selectively differentiated into tolerogenic or mature dendritic cells to regulate the balance between immunity and tolerance. This work presents a means to generate from immature monocyte derived dendritic cells (moDCs), in vitro tolerogenic and mature moDCs that differ in metabolic phenotypes.

Analyzing Dendritic Morphology in Columns and Layers

Here, we show how to analyze dendritic routing of Drosophila medulla neurons in columns and layers. The workflow includes a dual-view imaging technique to improve the image quality and computational tools for tracing, registering dendritic arbors to the reference column array and for analyzing the dendritic structures in 3D space.
