Transverse Coherence Loss

Transverse coherence loss is the decay of synchronized phase relationships among nuclear spins in the plane perpendicular to an applied magnetic field, a central process in magnetic resonance chemistry. It occurs when spin packets accumulate different precession phases through spin-spin interactions, local magnetic-field variations, molecular motion, and other sources of dephasing, reducing the transverse magnetization with a characteristic time constant, T2. In nuclear magnetic resonance, this process determines signal linewidth and influences spectral resolution, relaxation measurements, and pulse-sequence performance. Understanding transverse coherence loss helps researchers interpret molecular dynamics, characterize chemical environments, and optimize experiments such as multidimensional NMR and magnetic resonance imaging.

Line Loss

2024

The different configurations of source-load connections include wye (star) and delta connections. The relationship between line and phase voltages and currents varies depending on the configuration. When the source is supplying power, it is transmitted through the wires to the load, and during this transmission, some power is absorbed by the wires, leading to line loss. Line loss impacts power delivery efficiency in a balanced three-phase circuit. The symmetry in such a circuit simplifies the...

The measurement protocol and data analysis procedure are given for obtaining transverse coherence of a synchrotron radiation X-ray source along four directions simultaneously using a single 2-D checkerboard phase grating. This simple technique can be applied for complete transverse coherence characterization of X-ray sources and X-ray optics.

Minimally invasive transverse aortic constriction (MTAC) conserves the essentials of regular transverse aortic constriction (TAC) while eliminating the use of a ventilator with tracheal intubation. It proves to be a highly desirable method for high-throughput studies on left ventricular overload, particularly in translational studies.

Piping Networks and Pressure Losses

Source: Alexander S Rattner, Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA This experiment introduces the measurement and modeling of pressure losses in piping networks and internal flow systems. In such systems, frictional flow resistance from channel walls, fittings, and obstructions causes mechanical energy in the form of fluid pressure to be converted to heat. Engineering analyses are needed to size flow hardware to ensure...
