Blood Tests

Blood tests are laboratory analyses of blood samples used to assess health, detect disease, and monitor physiological changes. After collection, whole blood, plasma, or serum is examined using chemical, cellular, immunological, or molecular methods to measure components such as blood cells, proteins, electrolytes, hormones, antibodies, and genetic material. In clinical practice, these measurements support diagnosis, screening, treatment selection, and evaluation of how a condition responds to therapy. Because blood circulates throughout the body, test results can provide valuable information about organ function, infection, inflammation, metabolism, and overall health, while also guiding research into disease mechanisms and personalized care.

2012

The design of a straightforward one-day workflow scheme for bacterial pathogen diagnostics enables the rapid recognition of bloodstream infections. The inclusion of eight clinically relevant bacterial targets and their antibiotic resistance profiles offers the clinician an initial insight on the same day, which can lead to more adequate therapy.

Hemocompatibility Testing of Blood-Contacting Implants in a Flow Loop Model Mimicking Human Blood Flow

This protocol describes a comprehensive hemocompatibility evaluation of blood-contacting devices using laser-cut neurovascular implants. A flow loop model with fresh, heparinized human blood is applied to mimic blood flow. After perfusion, various hematologic markers are analyzed and compared to the values gained directly after blood collection for hemocompatibility evaluation of the tested devices.

A protocol to measure peripheral blood leukocytes using a POCT card-based leukocyte analyzer is presented here. Same blood samples were tested by two automated hematology analyzers to evaluate the consistency and accuracy of the results. The results showed that the evaluated analyzer had a good correlation with the reference system.

Standardized, comprehensive and fully quantitative testing of autonomic functions is described. The autonomic tests consist of evaluation of all three major autonomic domains including cardiovagal, adrenergic and sudomotor. The severity and distribution of dysautonomia is quantitated using Composite Autonomic Severity Scores.
