Mammalian Cell Culture

Mammalian cell culture is the controlled growth and maintenance of animal cells outside the body, providing a foundation for studying cell behavior and developing engineered biological systems. Cells are propagated in sterile vessels containing nutrient media that supplies energy, amino acids, salts, and growth factors, while incubators regulate temperature, pH, and gases; adherent cells attach to a surface, whereas suspension cells grow freely in the medium. In engineering, mammalian cell culture supports recombinant protein production, tissue engineering, drug testing, and biomanufacturing, with process control helping maintain viability, productivity, and reproducibility.
