Chicken Wing Model

The Chicken Wing Model is an ex vivo anatomical training model that uses chicken wing tissues to simulate selected human surgical structures and procedures. Its preserved skin, soft tissue, tendons, bone, and small blood vessels provide realistic tissue planes and tactile feedback for practicing dissection, suturing, fracture fixation, or microsurgical vascular anastomosis under controlled conditions. In medicine, the model supports surgical education, skills assessment, and technique development while reducing cost and avoiding patient risk. Because it lacks living circulation, immune responses, and tissue healing, it complements rather than replaces clinical simulation, animal models, and supervised patient care.

Parasite Induced Genetically Driven Autoimmune Chagas Heart Disease in the Chicken Model

The inoculation of Trypanosoma cruzi in fertile eggs prior to incubation renders the parasite kDNA minicircle integration in embryo cells genome. Crossbreeding reveals the vertical transfer of the mutations to progeny. The kDNA integrates into coding regions at several chromosomes and the chickens die with an inflammatory autoimmune heart disease.

In order to examine gene expression in the pupal wing tissue of Bicyclus anynana, we present an optimized protocol for in situ hybridizations using riboprobes. We also provide guidelines for the further optimization of this protocol for use in pupal wings of other Lepidopteran species.

Airfoil Behavior: Pressure Distribution over a Clark Y-14 Wing

2023

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire An airfoil is a 2-dimensional wing section that represents critical wing performance characteristics. The pressure distribution and lift coefficient are important parameters that characterize the behavior of airfoils. The pressure distribution is directly related to the lift generated by airfoils. A Clark Y-14 airfoil, which is used in this...

Chicken Chorioallantoic Membrane-based Cancer Modeling: An In Ovo Model to Study Cancer Cell Tumorigenesis and Metastasis

In this video, we describe the implantation of cancer cells onto a chicken chorioallantoic membrane to generate an in ovo model. The model successfully engrafts the ovarian cancer cells to study the progression of gynecological cancer.

Clark Y-14 Wing Performance: Deployment of High-lift Devices (Flaps and Slats)

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...
