Density Normalized Perfusion

Density Normalized Perfusion is a quantitative approach that expresses blood or fluid delivery relative to the amount or density of tissue being perfused. It combines a perfusion measurement with an independently determined tissue-density value, then scales the result so regions with different tissue amounts can be compared more fairly. In medicine, this normalization helps distinguish true changes in perfusion from differences caused by tissue composition, region size, or sample volume. The approach supports interpretation of experimental and imaging-based perfusion data, strengthens comparisons across tissues or patients, and can improve assessment of vascular function, disease-related changes, and responses to treatment.

Here, we provide a reliable approach for isolating low- and normal-density neutrophils from whole blood using magnetic isolation (negative selection) and discontinuous density gradient medium. It ensures untouched isolation of high-purity cells (≥93%), facilitating accurate downstream analysis of neutrophil subpopulations, crucial for understanding their roles in health and disease.

Antegrade Perfusion Model: An Ex Vivo Technique to Perfuse Isolated Mouse Heart

2025

This video describes an antegrade perfusion technique of an isolated mouse heart during which a perfusate is injected through the left ventricle, and eventually, it perfuses the entire myocardium. This method can be used to isolate cardiomyocytes from murine models and generate decellularized hearts for further downstream applications.

Normal Stress

2024

Normal stress is a type of stress that occurs when forces act perpendicular, or normal, to a material's cross-sectional area. This stress often arises in structures when subjected to axial loading, which is the application of force along the axis of an object. A practical example of this can be found in bridge truss members. When a rod is under axial loading, the internal forces and corresponding stress are normal to the plane of the section, so it is termed normal stress. It's important to...

Normal Distribution

The normal, a continuous distribution, is the most important of all the distributions. Its graph is a bell-shaped symmetrical curve, which is observed in almost all disciplines. Some of these include psychology, business, economics, the sciences, nursing, and, of course, mathematics. Some instructors may use the normal distribution to help determine students’ grades. Most IQ scores are normally distributed. Often real-estate prices fit a normal distribution. The normal distribution is extremely...

The porcine model of liver normothermic machine perfusion (NMP), described here, can be successfully used to study NMP as a preservation strategy, a tool for viability assessment, and a platform for organ repair. It holds a high translational value, however it is technically challenging and labor-intensive.
