Hippocampus Transplantation

Hippocampus transplantation is an experimental approach in which hippocampal tissue or neural cells are implanted into a damaged brain region to study or potentially restore memory-related circuitry. The procedure aims for grafted cells to survive, receive vascular support, differentiate, and form synaptic connections with host neurons, although immune responses and mismatched circuitry can limit integration. In medicine and neuroscience, transplantation models help investigate recovery after hippocampal injury caused by ischemia, epilepsy, or neurodegenerative disease, while providing a platform for evaluating cell-based therapies. Its principal value remains research-focused because reliable functional integration and long-term safety have not yet been established for routine clinical treatment.

2025

This video demonstrates the recording of rhythmic neuronal network activity, also known as theta oscillations, in an isolated hippocampus. Electrodes are inserted into various layers and spatial positions to detect and analyze theta oscillations. This shows the unique neuronal compositions and the connectivity of the neuronal network across different layers of the hippocampus.

2025

This video demonstrates a method for preparing organotypic hippocampal slice cultures from the brain of a rat pup. It outlines the steps involved in the dissection of the hippocampus, slicing, and culture conditions required to promote cell viability and growth in the hippocampal slices, ultimately generating organotypic slice cultures.
