Laser Protocol

A laser protocol is a standardized plan for using focused light in a medical procedure, specifying treatment goals, device settings, delivery method, and safety measures. Its effects depend on how laser energy interacts with tissue: wavelength determines absorption by targets such as water, pigment, or hemoglobin, while power, pulse duration, and spot size influence heating, vaporization, or selective tissue treatment. In medicine, carefully defined protocols support procedures including tissue cutting, coagulation, ablation, and photobiomodulation, while helping clinicians reproduce results, limit unwanted injury, and protect patients and staff. Protocols must be adapted to the device, tissue characteristics, indication, and clinical setting.

Laser microdissection is a technique that allows the recovery of selected cells from minute amounts of parenchyma. Here we describe a protocol for acquiring human pancreatic islets from surgical specimens to be used for transcriptomic studies. Our protocol improves the intrinsic autofluorescence of human beta cells, thus facilitating their collection.

Automation of Mode Locking in a Nonlinear Polarization Rotation Fiber Laser through Output Polarization Measurements

2016

A protocol to detect and automate mode locking in a pre-adjusted nonlinear polarization rotation fiber laser is presented. The detection of a sudden change in the output polarization state when mode locking occurs is used to command the alignment of an intra-cavity polarization controller in order to find mode-locking conditions.

Laser Microdissection-Based Protocol for the LC-MS/MS Analysis of the Proteomic Profile of Neuromelanin Granules

A robust protocol is presented here for isolating neuromelanin granules from human post-mortem substantia nigra pars compacta tissue via laser microdissection. This revised and optimized protocol massively minimizes the required time for sample collection, reduces the required sample amount, and enhances the identification and quantification of proteins by LC-MS/MS analysis.

An all laser procedure is proposed in the endothelial transplant. The surgical technique is based on the use of a femtosecond laser to prepare the donor tissue. Laser welding technique is then used to secure the donor endothelium in the correct position.
