Protein Levels

Protein levels refer to the amount or concentration of specific proteins in a biological sample, such as blood, urine, or tissue, and provide important information about health and disease. They reflect the balance among protein synthesis, cellular release, degradation, and clearance, and can be measured using laboratory methods such as immunoassays or electrophoresis. In medicine, abnormal protein levels may indicate inflammation, infection, organ dysfunction, immune disorders, nutritional problems, or cancer. Measuring changes over time supports diagnosis, disease monitoring, treatment assessment, and research into how molecular processes contribute to clinical outcomes.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance to Study Atomic Level Protein-Protein Interactions

2025

This video describes the nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy technique to study protein-protein interactions between 15N-labeled wild-type and mutant envoplakin proteins and the unlabeled vimentin protein. The successful interaction between wild-type envoplakin and vimentin leads to extensive line broadening and peak disappearance in the NMR spectra, whereas the absence of an interaction between the mutated envoplakin and vimentin results in well-resolved peaks in the NMR spectra.

Quantitative Western Blotting to Estimate Protein Expression Levels

2025

The video demonstrates a total protein normalization-based western blotting technique for quantifying the target protein expression in a sample. By utilizing the total protein staining of the sample, a ratiometric analysis is performed to determine the relative expression level of the target protein.

Plants offer a novel system for the production of pharmaceutical proteins on a commercial scale that is more scalable, cost-efficient and safe than current expression paradigms. In this study, we report a simple and convenient, yet scalable approach to introduce target-gene containing Agrobacterium tumefaciens into plants for protein transient expression.

Electrochemiluminescence Assay for Quantification of Target Protein Levels in Brain Lysate

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the electrochemiluminescence immunoassay for the quantitation of target protein levels in different samples. This assay is based on the luminescence produced in the electrochemical reaction. The intensity of light emitted is proportional to the quantity of the target protein in the sample.
