Radial Nerve Compression

Radial nerve compression is a peripheral nerve disorder in which pressure or reduced space around the radial nerve disrupts motor and sensory signaling, making it important for understanding limb function and neuropathy. Compression can occur along the nerve’s course, including the spiral groove or proximal forearm, where mechanical stress impairs axonal conduction and may produce pain, tingling, reduced sensation, or weakness in wrist and finger extension. In neuroscience and clinical research, neurological examination, electrodiagnostic testing, and imaging help localize the lesion and distinguish it from other nerve injuries. Defining the compression site supports appropriate treatment, functional recovery, and investigation of nerve repair.

Compression Tests on Hardened Concrete

2023

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA There are two distinct stages in a construction project involving concrete. The first stage involves batching, transporting, and casting fresh concrete. At this stage, the material is viscous, and the workability and finishability are the key performance criteria. The second stage occurs when the hydration process begins shortly after the concrete is placed in the form, and the concrete will...

Radial System Protection

2024

Radial systems employ time-delay overcurrent relays to reduce load interruptions. When a fault occurs, the nearest breaker opens first, while upstream breakers remain closed due to longer delay settings. This approach ensures minimal disruption to the rest of the system. In a radial system with a fault downstream of the third breaker, ideally, only the third breaker will open, isolating the fault and interrupting the load connected beyond it. The second breaker has a longer delay setting,...

Evaluating Motor Impairment in C. elegans Models Using the Radial Locomotion Assay

2025

This video demonstrates the use of a radial locomotion assay to evaluate motor dysfunction in C. elegans expressing either wild-type or ALS-mutant human TDP-43 protein. Worms with varying levels of wild-type or mutant TDP-43 expression are allowed to crawl, and their movement is measured by the radial distance traveled from the central point on the assay plate. The assay distinguishes between mild, moderate, and severe motor impairments based on the distance traveled by the different C. elegans...

Measurement of Compressive Stress-Strain Response at Small-Strains

2025

This protocol presents the configuration of a compression test device capable of precisely measuring the mechanical properties of microstructures in the small-strain region, along with a systematic method for compression testing using this device. The proposed device can be used to analyze various microstructures and the mechanical behavior of polymer-based materials.

Development of a Novel Internal Fixation Model for Rat Radial Fractures: Fracture Healing Assessment and Dorsal Root Ganglion Isolation

2026

The study innovatively combines sutures and titanium needles for stable internal fixation in a rat radial fracture model. Fracture healing was assessed via micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), and primary dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons were isolated and cultured for further investigation.
