Metal Mesh Fabrication

Metal mesh fabrication is the process of forming metal wires, strips, or sheets into a regular network of openings, producing materials with controlled geometry and mechanical behavior. Manufacturers create mesh by weaving, welding, knitting, perforating, or expanding metal, while parameters such as wire diameter, aperture size, material, and joining pattern determine strength, flexibility, porosity, and electrical conductivity. In physics and engineering, fabricated meshes support filtration, particle separation, structural reinforcement, thermal control, and electromagnetic shielding. Their predictable open-area fraction and surface structure also make them useful for studying fluid flow, wave transmission, charge distribution, and the relationship between material architecture and macroscopic performance.
