Evan Rosen

Broad Institute, Harvard Medical School Institute, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism

Dr. Rosen did his undergraduate work at Cornell University and received an MD and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan. He then moved to Boston for a residency in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Massachusetts General Hospital.  After completing a post-doctoral fellowship with Bruce Spiegelman at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute he started his own research group at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he is now Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is also an Institute Member of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. Dr. Rosen’s lab works on molecular mechanisms related to obesity, adipocyte development, and the molecular basis of insulin sensitivity, with particular emphasis on transcriptional and epigenomic events that affect metabolic health. In addition to his research activities, Dr. Rosen is a practicing endocrinologist.

Paul Cohen

Rockefeller University, Laboratory of Molecular Metabolism

Paul Cohen is the Albert Resnick, MD Associate Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Metabolism at the Rockefeller University. He is also a cardiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is a graduate of the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program. He pursued clinical training in Internal Medicine at Columbia and in Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He completed postdoctoral research training at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Cohen’s lab focuses on understanding the molecular links between obesity and associated diseases with a particular focus on diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.

Collection Overview

Interest in adipose tissue biology has soared in recent years, given the dramatic rise in obesity and increased awareness that adipose tissue is a key regulator of many physiological and pathophysiological processes. We propose a collection of video articles that describe new techniques employed in adipose tissue research, including single-cell approaches, assessment of thermogenesis, protein, and mitochondrial isolation, murine models of bariatric surgery, and more.
