Dr. Sandesh Panthi received his PhD from the Department of Anatomy at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, in 2021, which focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying absence seizure generation using a mouse model and DREADD technology. Then he joined the nearby department of Zoology as an assistant research fellow and worked on developing new pre-clinical models of genetic developmental and epileptic encephalopathy using Xenopus laevis as a model organism. Currently, he works as a research fellow at the Department of Psychiatry, Monash University, Australia.

Collection Overview

Neurological disorders encompass diseases affecting both the peripheral and central nervous systems, and they profoundly impact millions of individuals worldwide. For instance, strokes alone result in over 6 million deaths annually, while the global prevalence of epilepsy exceeds 50 million people. Dementia affects approximately 47.5 million individuals worldwide, with 7.7 million new cases reported annually. Alzheimer's disease, accounting for 60-70% of dementia cases, is the leading cause. While considerable progress has been made in recent decades, effective treatments remain elusive. Therefore, publishing methodological reports is paramount to advancing research in this field.

Through this Methods Collection, we cordially invite researchers from around the world to contribute their current tools and methods that encompass various aspects of neurological disorders. The approaches may include but are not limited to, innovative in vivo (mammalian and non-mammalian) and in vitro experimental approaches, microscopy techniques, computational methods, behavioral tests, electrophysiological recordings, and more.
