Ball Launcher Protocol

The Ball Launcher Protocol is a standardized behavioral testing method that uses a mechanical launcher to present moving balls and assess an organism’s responses under controlled conditions. By regulating ball release, including its timing, direction, and repetition, the protocol creates repeatable stimulus trials while researchers record behaviors such as approach, avoidance, tracking, interception, or orientation. These measurements can help characterize sensory processing, motor coordination, motivation, and learning, depending on the organism and experimental design. Consistent setup and scoring improve comparisons across subjects and studies, making the protocol useful for investigating how behavior changes with experience, environment, or experimental manipulation.

Source: Ketron Mitchell-Wynne, PhD, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA This experiment demonstrates the kinematics of motion in 1 and 2 dimensions. This lab will begin by studying motion in 1 dimension, under constant acceleration, by launching a projectile directly upward and measuring the maximum height reached. This lab will verify that the maximum height reached is consistent with the kinematic...

Presynapse Formation Assay Using Presynapse Organizer Beads and “Neuron Ball” Culture

Presynapse formation is a dynamic process including accumulation of synaptic proteins in proper order. In this method, presynapse formation is triggered by beads conjugated with a presynapse organizer protein on axonal sheets of “neuron ball” culture, so that accumulation of synaptic proteins is easy to be analyzed during presynapse formation.
