Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating, in which a person feels unable to control eating, followed by compensatory behaviors intended to prevent weight gain. The cycle can involve dietary restraint, distress, and behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, fasting, or excessive exercise, which may reinforce the disorder and harm physical health. Studying bulimia nervosa within behavioral science helps researchers examine learning, emotion regulation, body-image concerns, and environmental influences on eating behavior. Assessment and evidence-based treatment can interrupt the binge-compensation cycle, reduce medical complications, and support sustained recovery.
