Collaborative Problem Solving

Collaborative problem solving is a structured process in which people work together to understand a problem, consider different perspectives, and develop a mutually acceptable solution. In behavior-focused settings, participants identify the concern, clarify unmet needs or contributing conditions, generate possible responses, and evaluate options through communication and shared decision-making. This approach shifts attention from assigning blame to examining the interaction between individual behavior and the surrounding environment. It can support conflict resolution, improve cooperation, and guide interventions in educational, clinical, organizational, and family contexts by promoting practical solutions, participant engagement, and more sustainable behavioral change.
