Functional Abilities Assessment

Functional abilities assessment is a systematic method for evaluating how effectively a person performs tasks and activities in everyday or structured settings, making observable abilities and support needs easier to describe. It combines direct observation, interviews, behavioral ratings, and task-based measures to examine performance under defined conditions, identify barriers, and relate behavior to functional demands. In behavioral science, these assessments help distinguish what a person can do from factors that may interfere with performance, guiding individualized interventions, environmental adaptations, educational planning, and rehabilitation. Repeated assessment can also track change over time and provide measurable outcomes for research and practice.

2013

Differential sperm competitive ability among Drosophila males with distinct genotypes can be ascertained through double-mating experiments. Each of these experiments involves one of the males of interest and a reference male. Readily identifiable markers in the progeny allow inference of the fraction of individuals fathered by each male.

Assessing the Particulate Matter Removal Abilities of Tree Leaves

The ultrasonic cleaning method was applied to elute the particulate matter (PM) retained on leaf surfaces after PM was eluted by the conventional cleaning methods (water cleaning only or water cleaning plus brush cleaning). The methodology can help to improve the estimation accuracy for PM retention capacity of leaves.

We tested the usability of a tablet-computer-based application (EmoCogMeter) in investigating the effects of age on cognition. Results show an age-related cognitive decline, thereby proving the usability of our application. Findings underline the great clinical and practical potential of a tablet-based application for detection and monitoring of cognitive dysfunction.
