Preference Apparatus Setup

Preference apparatus setup is the arrangement of equipment, test materials, and environmental conditions used to measure an organism’s choice between or among alternatives. In behavioral experiments, the apparatus presents options in controlled locations or compartments while researchers record responses such as approach, occupancy, investigation, or selection, helping distinguish preference from chance or positional bias. Careful setup includes standardized stimulus placement, access conditions, trial duration, and cleaning or resetting between tests. This method supports studies of motivation, learning, sensory evaluation, social behavior, and reward, providing reproducible data for comparing how organisms respond to different stimuli or experimental conditions.

2010

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.

Taste is an important sensory process which facilitates attraction to beneficial substances and avoidance of toxic substances. This protocol describes a simple ingestion assay for determining Drosophila gustatory preference for a given chemical compound.

Design and Analysis of Temperature Preference Behavior and its Circadian Rhythm in Drosophila

We recently identified a novel Drosophila circadian output, temperature preference rhythm (TPR), in which the preferred temperature in flies rises during the day and falls during the night. TPR is regulated independently from another circadian output, locomotor activity. Here we describe the design and analysis of TPR in Drosophila.

Golgi Apparatus

Properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles that exit the ER. Motor proteins transport these vesicles to the Golgi apparatus for adding modifications that make these proteins functional at their destination. The Golgi apparatus is a eukaryotic organelle that has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. It is a primary sorting and dispatch station for cargo arriving from the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter the cis face of the Golgi, closest to the ER, and are...

As they leave the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER), properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles. These vesicles are transported by microtubule-based motor proteins and fuse together to form vesicular tubular clusters, subsequently arriving at the Golgi apparatus, a eukaryotic endomembrane organelle that often has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. The Golgi apparatus is a major sorting and dispatch station for the products of the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter...
