Bone Surface Reconstruction

Bone surface reconstruction is the bioengineering process of restoring or modeling the outer geometry of bone to support structural repair, anatomical analysis, or implant design. It typically converts medical imaging data into a three-dimensional representation, identifies the damaged or missing surface, and generates a digitally reconstructed geometry that can guide computational analysis or physical fabrication. Engineers use these models to design patient-specific implants, tissue-engineering scaffolds, and surgical tools while improving anatomical fit and load transfer. The approach also supports quantitative studies of bone morphology, repair outcomes, and the development of personalized regenerative treatments.

Optimal functional outcomes after bionic reconstruction in patients with global brachial plexus injury depend on a structured rehabilitation protocol. Surface electromyographic guided training may improve the amplitude, separation and consistency of EMG signals, which - after elective amputation of a functionless hand - control and drive a prosthetic hand.

Coronoid-Temporalis Pedicled Flap for Orbital Floor Defect Reconstruction

2025

This protocol presents a novel coronoid-temporalis pedicled flap (CTPF) technique for reconstructing small-to-medium orbital floor defects. CTPF avoids microvascular risks while maintaining biomechanical stability. Clinical cases demonstrate effective structural restoration, reduced complications, and preserved facial symmetry, offering a viable alternative to traditional grafts or alloplastic materials.

Here we present a protocol for the dissection of hind limb long bones (femurs and tibiae) from the laboratory mouse. We further describe a rapid technique for bone marrow isolation from these bones that utilizes centrifugation for removal of bone marrow from the bone marrow space.

Biomaterials doped with Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP2) have been used as a new therapeutic strategy to heal non-union bone fractures. To overcome side effects resulting from an uncontrollable release of the factor, we propose a new strategy to site-directly immobilize the factor, thus creating materials with improved osteogenic capabilities.
