Dry-film Method

Dry-film Method is a photolithographic fabrication technique that uses a thin, preformed layer of photoresist to create patterned structures on a substrate, offering a practical route to microscale device production. By laminating the film, exposing it through a photomask, and developing the exposed or unexposed regions according to the resist chemistry, engineers transfer designed features into molds or functional surfaces. In bioengineering, this method supports rapid prototyping of microfluidic channels, lab-on-chip systems, and cell-culture platforms while enabling controlled geometry and reproducible fabrication. Its accessible workflow can shorten development cycles and facilitate microscale environments for biological assays and tissue engineering research.

Source: Logan G. Kiefer, Andrew R. Falkowski, and Taylor D. Sparks, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT Electroplating is a process that uses electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a thin coating on an electrode. Other thin film deposition techniques include chemical vapor deposition (CVD), spin coating, dip coating, and sputter deposition among others. CVD uses a gas-phase precursor of the element to be...

A method for the drying-induced self-integration of megamolecular biopolymers on the air-liquid crystalline interface is provided here. This methodology will be useful not only for understanding the macroscopic potentials of biopolymers, but also as an evaluation method for soft materials in biomedical and environmental fields.

We describe a method for the fabrication of large-area (up to 13 cm diameter) and ultrathin (as thin as 8 nm) polymer films. Instead of using a sacrificial interlayer to delaminate the film from its substrate, we use a self-limiting surface treatment suitable for arbitrarily large areas.
