Internalization Feature Quantification

Internalization Feature Quantification is a quantitative image-analysis approach for measuring how much of a material, biomolecule, or engineered structure enters cells rather than remaining at the cell surface. The method typically combines cell and signal segmentation with spatial measurements, such as intracellular object counts, fluorescence intensity, area, or colocalization, while controls and optical sectioning help distinguish true internalization from surface binding. In bioengineering, these measurements support evaluation of nanoparticle delivery, biomaterial interactions, receptor-mediated uptake, and engineered cellular systems, providing reproducible data for comparing designs, conditions, and treatment outcomes.

Here, we describe a standard protocol for quantifying the optokinetic reflex. It combines virtual drum stimulation and video-oculography, and thus allows precise evaluation of the feature selectivity of the behavior and its adaptive plasticity.

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia The goal of many chemical analyses is a quantitative analysis, where the amount of a substance in a sample is determined. In order to accurately calculate the concentration of an unknown from a sample, careful sample preparation is key. Every time a sample is handled or transferred, some of the sample can be lost. There are strategies however, for minimizing sample loss. There are also strategies for coping with sample loss and...

Internal Energy

2020

The total of all possible kinds of energy present in a substance is called the internal energy (U), sometimes symbolized as E. Suppose a system with initial internal energy, Uinitial, undergoes a change in energy (transfer of work or heat), and the final internal energy of the system is Ufinal. Change in internal energy equals the difference between Ufinal and Uinitial. Although the values for Ufinal and Uinitial cannot be determined for a system, the first law of thermodynamics only...

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University How do people find objects in cluttered visual scenes? Think, for example, of looking for keys on a messy desk, finding the ripest-looking fruit at the grocery store, locating your car when you can’t quite remember where you parked it, or finding an old friend at an airport exit gate. Clearly, an understanding of visual perception is going to play a role in any answers, and more specifically, an understanding of visual attention...

Features of a Corporation

A notable feature of corporations is the transferability of shares, enabling shareholders to sell or transfer their ownership stakes without impacting the corporation's operations. This ease makes investment and liquidity simpler, as demonstrated by the dynamic trading of Apple Inc. shares on the stock market. Corporations benefit from centralized management, typically overseen by a board of directors and executive officers. This structure allows for specialized decision-making, enhancing the...
