Channel Lifetime Analysis

Channel lifetime analysis is the study of how long membrane channels remain in functional states, such as open, closed, or inactivated, and why these durations matter for cellular signaling. In biology, researchers typically record channel activity over time, identify transitions between states, and calculate dwell-time distributions from individual or combined opening and closing events. These measurements reveal channel gating kinetics and how factors such as membrane voltage, ligands, ions, or mutations alter activity. Channel lifetime analysis supports research on neuronal communication, muscle contraction, ion transport, and disease mechanisms, while helping evaluate drugs or other conditions that modify channel behavior.

Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) is a metric that quantifies the total revenue a business expects to earn from a customer throughout their entire relationship. It involves predicting the monetary value a customer will bring over time, factoring in their purchasing patterns, frequency, and duration of engagement. CLV is crucial for businesses to assess the long-term profitability of acquiring and retaining customers. By understanding the value each customer contributes, companies can optimize...

Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging of PolyQ Protein Aggregation in Caenorhabditis elegans Neurons

Source: Pigazzini, M. L., et. al. Characterization of Amyloid Structures in Aging C. Elegans Using Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates the use of fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) to assess polyQ protein aggregation in C. elegans neurons, comparing control and chaperone protein-deficient worms. Increased aggregation in chaperone-deficient worms promotes energy transfer between clustered fluorophores, reducing fluorescence lifetime.
