Cisplatin Exposure

Cisplatin exposure refers to the contact of cells, tissues, or organisms with cisplatin, a platinum-based compound widely used to study DNA damage, cell death, and drug response in biology. After entering cells, cisplatin forms covalent links with DNA bases, particularly neighboring guanines, distorting the DNA structure and interfering with replication and transcription. These lesions can activate DNA repair pathways, cell-cycle checkpoints, and apoptosis, while incomplete repair may contribute to treatment resistance. Controlled cisplatin exposure supports research on genotoxicity, cancer biology, cellular stress responses, and mechanisms that influence the effectiveness and toxicity of platinum-based therapies.

A whole-body nanoparticle aerosol inhalation exposure facility was constructed for nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) inhalation toxicology studies. This system provides nano-TiO2 aerosol test atmospheres that have: 1) a steady mass concentration; 2) a homogenous composition free of contaminants; and 3) a stable particle size distribution during aerosol generation.
