Dapi Mounting Medium

DAPI mounting medium is a fluorescence microscopy reagent that preserves biological specimens while staining cellular DNA, making nuclei visible for imaging and analysis. Its active component, 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI), binds preferentially to adenine- and thymine-rich regions of double-stranded DNA and emits blue fluorescence when illuminated with ultraviolet or near-ultraviolet light. The mounting medium helps secure coverslips and may reduce photobleaching, supporting clearer, longer-lasting images. In biology, it is widely used to visualize nuclear morphology, count cells, assess tissue organization, and provide a nuclear reference alongside fluorescent markers in immunofluorescence and cell imaging studies.
