Data Logger Program

A data logger program is software that configures data loggers and manages measurements collected by sensors, allowing biological observations to be recorded systematically over time. The program typically sets sampling intervals, starts or stops recording, assigns timestamps, and transfers stored readings for organization, visualization, and analysis. In biology, it supports monitoring environmental and physiological variables under laboratory or field conditions, including temperature, light, humidity, or other sensor-detected signals. By preserving time-resolved datasets, data logger programs help researchers identify patterns, compare experimental conditions, document changing habitats, and improve the reproducibility of ecological, behavioral, and physiological studies.

Surface renewal is a micrometeorological method that is being used increasingly to determine energy fluxes, but its technical complexity makes it inaccessible to a broad audience. We describe the steps needed to set up and calibrate a surface renewal field station, to acquire and process data, and to correctly interpret results.

Programmed electrical stimulation provides the ability to determine conduction properties of the heart, and the possibility to induce and terminate cardiac arrhythmias using various pacing protocols. Using a transvenous catheter, intracardiac electrogram recordings can be obtained in mice following programmed electrical stimulation protocols to identify arrhythmogenic substrates.
