Fixed Tissue Preparation

Fixed tissue preparation is a laboratory process that preserves biological tissues in a stable state for examination, allowing cellular structures and tissue organization to be studied after collection. During fixation, chemical agents such as formaldehyde create cross-links between proteins, slowing enzymatic degradation and limiting microbial damage; subsequent processing may include dehydration, clearing, and embedding in paraffin or another support medium. Thin sections can then be stained for histology, examined by light or electron microscopy, or used in selected molecular and immunohistochemical assays. In biology, this workflow supports tissue architecture analysis, disease investigation, developmental studies, and reproducible archival storage.
