Green Peach Aphid

The green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, is a small, sap-feeding insect that affects plant biology, agriculture, and ecosystem interactions. Using specialized piercing-sucking stylets, it penetrates phloem tissues and withdraws nutrient-rich sap, while its feeding can alter plant signaling and physiology. This aphid reproduces rapidly, often through live birth and parthenogenesis, allowing populations to expand under favorable conditions; it can also transmit numerous plant viruses between hosts. Studying the green peach aphid supports research on insect-plant interactions, vector biology, host defense, population dynamics, and sustainable pest management, including monitoring and strategies to address insecticide resistance.

Aphids are effective transmitters of plant viruses. Aphid microinjection of virus, the procedure we will show you today, is a technique allowing researchers to inject virus directly into the hemocoel of the aphid, bypassing the gut, one of the 2 major barriers for virus transmission in a circulative manner. The same technique is also used to inject dsRNA for RNAi.

Identification of Critical Conditions for Immunostaining in the Pea Aphid Embryos: Increasing Tissue Permeability and Decreasing Background Staining

A protocol of whole-mount immunostaining on aphid embryos is presented, in which critical conditions for decreasing background staining and increasing tissue permeability are addressed. These conditions are specifically developed for effective detection of protein expression in the embryonic tissues of aphids.

Green Algae

Green algae, also referred to as chlorophytes, are different from red algae in having the chloroplasts containing chlorophylls a and b, which give them their distinct green hue. However, they lack phycobiliproteins, preventing them from developing the red or blue-green pigmentation seen in red algae. In terms of photosynthetic pigment composition, green algae closely resemble plants and share a close evolutionary relationship with them. Taxonomically Green algae belong to Phylum Chlorophyta in...
