Immunohistochemical Detection

Immunohistochemical detection is a laboratory method that identifies and localizes specific proteins or other antigens within preserved tissue sections, linking molecular identity to tissue structure. The method uses primary antibodies that bind target antigens, followed by labeled secondary antibodies or directly labeled probes; enzyme-linked labels generate colored reaction products, while fluorescent labels produce signals visible by microscopy. In biology, immunohistochemical detection helps map protein distribution, characterize cell types, and assess changes associated with development, disease, or treatment. By preserving spatial context, it complements molecular assays that measure abundance without showing where targets occur within cells and tissues.
